UPTOWN PLAYERS AND QUAD C THEATRE LEAD IN NOMINATIONS FOR
2005 "THE COLUMN" THEATRE AWARDS.
(Dallas, Texas)
The nominations for the 2005 "The Column" Theatre Awards were
announced today by Executive Director/Producer John Garcia.
These awards honor excellence in theater within the entire Dallas/
Fort Worth metroplex for the 2004-05 season.
"What really makes this year so exciting are two major factors",
said
Garcia, "One is that this year's voting tripled from last year. I
was
thrilled to see the huge increase in votes this year. The second
factor is that if you look at the nominations, there is represent-
ation from all over the metroplex. From the big theater companies,
to
the smaller ones. That really brings our main theme home, which is
unity within the entire DFW theater community". Voting for these
awards are totally decided upon by "The Column"
subscribers, which is done by electronic ballot. Round one has all
eligible shows(casts, designers, etc) listed on the ballot Then the
6 individuals, etc. with the highest votes become the official
nominations.
In both rounds, only subscribers to "The Column" are allowed to
vote.
The 7th Annual "The Column" Theatre Awards will hold its glittery
gala on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at the Plano Courtyard Theater in
Plano, Texas. There is a cocktail reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00
p.m., with the ceremony starting at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $20.00 per
person. All proceeds (after paying all operating costs) will go
towards BCEFA (Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids).
Tickets go on sale February 6th.
"The Column" Theatre
Awards are the only awards organization in Texas
that donates their ticket sales to BCEFA, which has now made them a
part of the BCEFA Angel campaign.
This year "The Column" Theatre Awards will have as their Guest of
Honor, Anthony Rapp, who starred in the original Broadway production
of RENT as well as the film which was released earlier this year.
